SCBA’s Inaugural Town Hall, Hosted On 5 July 2021
In light of the ever-changing operational restrictions, SCBA hosted its first Townhall session on 5 July 2021, with over 30 members in attendance. Board and Committee Members of SCBA turned up in full force to provide counsel on navigating the challenging climate today, while touching on critical issues that will continue to impact our industry in the months ahead.
If you missed the Townhall session, a recap of the key discussion points are included here.
Working With Safe Distancing Ambassadors
While member bars are in complete alignment with the government on implementing safety measures, challenges arise when there are inconsistencies to some of the requirements raised by SDA.
Examples of inconsistencies include SDA informing member bars that (1) Staff are not allowed to engage with guests at the table (2) Bar seatings are not allowed
SCBA advises for all member bars to take the following approach with working with SDA on such issues:
Step 1: Remain collaborative and seek to understand the request/restriction
Step 2: Request to clarify the request/restriction with relevant authorities through SCBA, while remaining cooperative with SDA
Step 3: Request to reference the request/restriction to the relevant SDA, by scanning the QR code on the back of his/her identity tag
Step 4: Email your case with details on the above, to general@sgcocktailbarassociation.org
Collaborative Approach With ESG On Restrictions Implementations
SCBA Board Members will be meeting with ESG in the week of 19 July
The Association seeks to propose a more collaborative approach when it comes to introducing restrictions that would impact the F&B industry
Active Outreach To Improve Industry Perception
The industry is expecting a big labour crunch brought about by a combination of factors, including the negative perception of our trade. In addressing this, SCBA is taking a two-pronged approach:
(1) Positive Industry Branding: SCBA is proactively seeking news opportunities that will position our industry in a positive light in order to attract more talents. This includes differentiating ourselves through a spotlight on our craft.
(2) Education Outreach: SCBA plans to focus on grooming interest for our industry amongst hospitality and culinary students as a longer term mitigation. SCBA may request for training subsidies from the government, in support of this approach.
